801 were a band formed by Phil Manzanera after the first hiatus of Roxy Music in 1976. The initial band consisted of Phil Manzanera Guitars, Brian Eno Vocals Keyboards, Bill MacCormack Bass & Vocals, Francis Monkman Keyboards, Simon Phillips Drums & Lloyd Watson Vocals & Slide Guitar. They performed 3 shows with the last show at Queen Elizabeth Hall London being recorded for the critically acclaimed album 801 Live.

The name came from a dream that Brian Eno had where he heard voices singing "we are the 801". The band reformed with a different line up for some dates to promote the Phil Manzanera/801 album Listen Now. The live line up had changed in that it consisted of - Phil Manzanera Guitar, Paul Thompson Drums, Andy Mackay Saxophone, Dave Skinner Keyboards, Simon Ainley Lead Vocals And Guitar, Bill MacCormack Bass with Kevin Godley &
Lol Creme appearing as special guests.
